In the waterproofing business, every
company does something different. There are no set guidelines or rules
about how waterproofing a foundation is supposed to be done. It is up to
your judgment to make the right decision as to what makes the most
sense to you. However, since most people shopping around for a
waterproofing company are novices in this area, your only reliable
source to make sure you are spending your dollar with a good company is
the BBB.
You will find out if the company you are checking on
cares about their reputation, and is in this business to stay, not just
to make a quick buck and get out. BBB will help you make a more informed
decision. We highly recommend checking with the BBB first before you
hire any company / contractor. Even if that company / contractor is not a
member of the BBB, if there are customer complaints filed against them /
him the BBB report will tell you that.
On the other hand, why would you risk hiring somebody
who is not a member? When you invest your hard-earned dollar in your
home improvement, you surely do not want to lose your money AND hire a
second company after the first one did not fix the problem and refuses
to honor their warranty. Beware: some companies offer a very "limited
warranty" that releases them from any liability, while others'
warranties expire after just one year -- which is just when your
basement starts leaking again.
As with other businesses, if a price is too good to be
true, it usually is. Being in this business for as long as we have been,
we have seen and heard it all from people who received bad service from
companies who took the homeowners' money and left a still-leaking
basement behind. Therefore, do your homework now and only hire companies
that will provide you with a copy of their insurance, Workers'
Compensation, a reference sheet, AND that are BBB members without
complaints on their reports. We are members of the BBB Care Program and
proud of our good reputation!
